"I also sent to Hoover the text of my complaint and stated that I would not stop until Hoover had lost 1000 times the money that I lost on the broken vacuum. Hoover customer service called me and said that there was nothing that they could do.

I suggested that the agent pass my complaint up to her supervisors, which she did, and then told me that they would replace the vacuum with a new one but without warranty since I did not have the original sales receipt. Well, hopefully the warranty will not be needed. I have only 2 years left on the original warranty and the new vacuum will probably last that long. I cannot recommend Hoover, but I can say that "persistence furthers" (from the I-Ching).

Don't quit with them, be calm and assertive. Make your case clearly. They seem to have employees with some authority who will respond positively to this approach.
